The one statistic that makes grim reading for Steve Cooper at Leicester City despite first win

Steve Cooper may have secured a first Premier League win as Leicester City manager last time out but he still has some way to go before winning over the Foxes faithful.

Few were overly excited when Steve Cooper was named as the man to replace Enzo Maresca early in the summer due to his affiliation with rivals Nottingham Forest and uninspiring demeanour.

Most Leicester City fans were willing to give Cooper a chance, but have been left frustrated by the 44-year-old’s negative tactics.

That annoyance had started to boil over after draws against Everton and Walsall, but a battling display away at Arsenal followed by a first three points against Bournemouth have helped relieve some of the pressure on Cooper.

There is still work to be done to build a relationship with supporters however, and one statistic highlights why Leicester fans are not quite sold just yet.

Leicester City worst in Premier League for key statistic

The win courtesy of a Facundo Buonanotte strike saw Leicester move up to 15th in the Premier League on six points.

Draws against Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Everton have handed Leicester their other three points, but Cooper has been criticised for his cautious approach.

X account The Other 14 – who focus on the non ‘Big Six’ Premier League clubs – have drawn attention to a statistic that demonstrates why it is that Leicester supporters are unhappy.

They have posted an image on X that shows that Leicester have had the least touches in the opposition penalty area in the Premier League this season with 96, averaging just 13.7 a game.

Steve Cooper should take handbrake off against Southampton

Next up for Leicester is a trip to fellow newly-promoted Southampton and Cooper can afford to be a little more attack-minded for the St Mary’s clash.

Southampton are 19th in the table on just one point and are yet to keep a clean sheet so Leicester should go into the game full of confidence.

The Saints have scored just four league goals and have conceded 15 in their seven matches which shows this is a game Leicester really must target three points from.
