Three dream Ruud van Nistelrooy replacements Leicester City could approach include Champions League finalist

Ruud van Nistelrooy has failed to turn Leicester City’s form around and it’s now hard to see him lasting the remainder of the season without being sacked.

Ruud van Nistelrooy first watched Leicester City live as their manager back in late November versus Brentford.

He wasn’t in the dugout for the game but it was the first match following his appointment as Steve Cooper’s successor.

Ironically, Leicester’s meeting with Brentford this week may prove to be the final straw for the Dutchman’s short and woeful spell in the Midlands.

Foxes fans want Van Nistelrooy to leave the club and who can blame them after 10 losses in 11 Premier League games?

With this in mind, we have taken a look at three out-of-work managers who would be dream replacements for the Dutchman.

Three dreams replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy as Leicester City manager

Edin Terzic

Given Leicester are fighting for their life at the bottom of the Premier League, attracting top managers will be tough.

However, stranger things have happened in football, with most probably never believing multi-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti would have a spell at Everton.

Speaking of the Champions League, Edin Terzic took Borrussia Dortmund to the final in 2023/24 before losing out to Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.

The 42-year-old left Dortmund at his own request in June 2024 and has been out of work since. He’d be a huge coup for Leicester and would certainly add some creative spark to their currently limp attack.

Maurizio Sarri

Best known to English fans for his stint at Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri has won the Serie A, Europa League, and countless individual awards.

He resigned as Lazio boss in March 2024 but despite managing some big teams in recent years, does have a history of taking up roles at smaller clubs.

Sarri would bring a possession-based style to Leicester and given nothing else has worked so far this season, it could be just what they need.

Erik ten Hag

A controversial pick granted, but even if Leicester fans don’t rate Erik ten Hag from his time at Manchester United, their form after his sacking shows the Dutchman was probably overachieving somewhat with that group of players.

Ten Hag is a title-winning coach with Champions League and Premier League experience who is clearly an upgrade on Van Nistelrooy.

He was obviously hampered by the behind-the-scenes issues at Old Trafford but given there don’t appear to be too many, if any, massive egos at Leicester, it may be a job that suits him better.
