Three Eredivisie stars that Ruud van Nistelrooy could bring to Leicester in January transfer window

The January transfer window represents an opportunity for clubs to make their last few alterations to the squad ahead of the final lap of the season.

That’s no different for Leicester City this winter, who will be doing everything they can to avoid ending the Premier League campaign in the bottom three.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed in November and has had a busy start to life at the King Power Stadium.

Despite claiming there won’t be wholesale changes to the squad, the Leicester boss will have money available to make changes.

Some managers often look towards home comforts and one place Van Nistelrooy knows very well is the Eredivisie.

A market where gems can often be unearthed, it would be remiss to think that the Dutchman may not have one eye on his homeland to recruit.

So, with that, Leicester City News spoke to Dutch outlet VotebalZone to discover three names that could find themselves in the East Midlands by the end of next month.

Oliver Boscagli – PSV

One club Van Nistelrooy knows better than anyone is PSV Eindhoven having spent a season in charge of the Dutch giants.

There, he managed Oliver Boscagli, a French defender capable of playing at centre-back and left-back if required.

With defensive reinforcements needed at Leicester, Boscagli could prove to be a shrewd pickup.

“He was on the verge of signing for Brighton this summer, but the deal collapsed,” Votebal stated.

“He’s formed a solid partnership with Ryan Flamingo in the heart of the PSV-defence, is a reliable defender and a very good passer. They are 99 percent sure this is his last season at PSV, a club Van Nistelrooy knows all too well.”

Anis Hadj Moussa – Feyenoord

One of the areas Leicester are lacking serious quality in is the wide positions.

The season-ending injury to Abdul Fatawu was a setback last season for a side that enjoyed so much success on the wings with Stephy Mavididi on the opposite side.

There a plethora of options in the form of Facundo Buonanotte, Bilal El Khannouss, Jordan Ayew and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, but none are all out-and-out wingers.

Anis Hadj Moussa is a name that is making a lot of headlines over in the Netherlands and the adaptability of the 22-year-old could be a huge bonus for Van Nistelrooy.

Votebal said: “Anis Hadj Moussa is a right winger who can also play on the left.

“He has been the big star in the Eredivisie in the last few weeks and pundits love him. Scores and gives assists in almost every game, like the game against Manchester City in the famous 3-3 draw earlier this year.”

Ion Nicoleascu – Heerenveen

Van Nistelrooy seems to be happy with his striking options but as talks of Odsonne Edouard’s loan being cancelled continue to surface, that would leave Patson Daka as the only alternative to Jamie Vardy.

Santiago Gimenez was wanted by Leicester in the summer but his form and pedigree may mean they are priced out of a move for him.

Moldova international Ion Nicoleascu on the other hand is catching the eye at Heerenveen, where he is working under Premier League icon Robin van Persie and could be considered a budget alternative and someone that could provide a different option on the pitch.

“Ion Nicoleascu is a tall striker from Moldova who scored the winning goal vs PSV and has five goals in his second season at Heerenveen.”

“Working with Van Persie will definitely make him a better striker and 16 goals in 48 games for Moldova isn’t bad at all.”
