Three Leicester City players who must step up and improve in order to prevent another relegation – one starred in the Championship

Leicester City have been involved in a difficult season to say the least this.

The Foxes’ defeat against Manchester United means that all they have to focus on now is the Premier League.

With 14 games to go, the Foxes are two points adrift of Wolves and occupy the final relegation spot.

Ruud van Nistelrooy may not have the best squad in the league and although the likes of Bilal El Khannouss have been praised, there are others who are simply not cutting it.

Relegation back to the Championship would be a huge failure for Leicester but in order for them to maintain their top flight status next season, three players must step up and prove their worth.

Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew has earned the title of super sub at Leicester for his goals when coming off the bench but has found himself starting a lot more recently.

Strikes against Ipswich Town and Southampton earned the Foxes vital points but his last two appearances in particular have been extremely underwhelming.

Aged 33, Ayew is no spring chicken and it appears the wide man struggles to keep up with the pace of the game in the latter stages of the second half.

He is proven at Premier League level though and the £5m forward should be using his expertise to galvanise the squad and take them to the next level.

Harry Winks

Compared to last season, Harry Winks is a shadow of the player he was.

A brief spell out injured appears to have de-railed his performances, with the number eight looking the less composed when alongside Boubakary Soumare – a player who has reinvented himself this season.

Last season Winks made 292 progressive passes and is yet to even hit 100 this season (92) as well far less passes in general (4000 in the 23/24 compared to 954 this season), as per Fbref.

It’s evident that Winks has the ball, things can be unlocked and the 10-time England international must get back to those levels on the ball.

Stephy Mavididi

Stephy Mavididi appears to be a player who thrives on confidence. When things go well for him, the winger is capable of beating any man and scoring plenty of goals.

His return this season of four goal contributions is a rapid decline from the 18 he registered in the title-winning season.

No only is he becoming more wasteful in front of goal, he isn’t creating chances or having enough shots altogether.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid has started ahead of the former Arsenal man in the last three games and with Jamie Vardy also struggling to score every week, Mavididi needs to come and help take the pressure off him.
