Nobody wants to believe it, but one day, Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester City.

Whether that be by retiring or walking away, Vardy will end his incredible spell, where he will be remembered as a Foxes legend for the rest of his life.

Vardy’s contract expires this summer and at the age of 38, is in the latter stages of his career.

There will be many voids to fill when the striker leaves the King Power Stadium, including the role of club captain.

Who that will fall to remains up for grabs, but there are three options that should be considered by Ruud van Nistelrooy for the role next season.

Ricardo Pereira

One of the most experienced players in the side, Ricardo Pereira has already has experience of being a Leicester captain after being handed the armband in the Championship whenever Vardy wasn’t playing,

The full back is also favoured by Van Nistelrooy, with the Leicester boss changing his formation to accommodate Pereira.

His fitness issues over the years could be an issue but if you want someone who commands respect in the dressing room, then look no further.

Ben Nelson

The wildcard entry. Ben Nelson’s time in professional football is still early but his talent is there for everyone to see.

Nelson was given chances here and there in the title-winning season under Enzo Maresca and has looked the part in a struggling Oxford United side since joining them on loan.

He may be young, but there is a chance that the Leicester side will be built around youth next season.

Next season he’ll be 21-years-old and almost certainly guaranteed to be involved with the first team. It’s time to look to the future and the defender is one that would likely thrive with the armband.

Harry Winks

Similarly to Pereira, Harry Winks has plenty of experience.

He was the heartbeat of Maresca’s side but has lost his way following the return to the top flight.

When given responsibility though, he is up to the task and it may help to rediscover his form and show everyone the same qualities as he did in the 23/24 campaign.

On the other hand, he could well be one of the players to depart in the summer given his inflated wages so he is the least likely of the trio suggested.
