Leicester City look to finally be making moves in the January market after a very quiet start.

Leicester City’s Premier League rivals have all largely been active during the opening 11 days of the transfer window.

At present, the Foxes are yet to sign a single player with fans likely concerned – especially given their team are 19th in the division right now.

However, Ruud van Nistelrooy appears to be closing in on his first signing as manager, with Leicester set to sign Woyo Coulibaly from Parma for a fee of around €3m.

Coulibaly is a right-back and will give the Midlands outfit some much-needed quality depth in both full-back positions.

But another defender could also be on his way to the King Power Stadium this month.

Leicester City eye second full-back after Woyo Coulibaly

At present, James Justin is the Foxes’ only natural right-back option – a problem Coulibably should fix.

However, there is still a lack of quality depth on the left side of Van Nistelrooy’s back four.

That issue could be resolved this month as well, however, with Alan Nixon reporting on Leicester’s interest in a Premier League full-back via his Patreon.

He claims that Newcastle United are going to let Matt Targett leave St James’ Park in the January transfer window amid a lack of playing time.

He adds that Leicester, along with Brentford, are exploring the possibility of a deal this month.

It’s not clear if a move would be a loan or a permanent transfer at this stage.

What Leicester City fans need to know about Matt Targett

Targett joined Newcastle from Aston Villa in July 2022, signing for the Magpies in a £15m deal, as per BBC Sport.

He made 19 appearances in the 2022/23 season as the North East outfit secured themselves a spot in the Champions League.

His game time was dramatically reduced in 2023/24, however, owing to two separate long-term injuries.

Targett is now back fit but has only been able to notch 11 minutes of senior football so far this season.
