Leicester City in talks to sign ‘very good’ £7m defender on loan but face competition from Europe

Leicester City have conceded far too many goals this season but could now be about to strengthen their backline.

The Foxes are set to face Aston Villa in a Premier League meeting on January 4th, going into that game 19th in the table.

A key reason for Leicester City’s fall down the division this season has been their dismal defensive record – conceding 42 in 19 before Saturday.

James Justin has been poor this term, while the likes of Wout Faes have been axed by new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy to try and solve the problem.

12 conceded in four suggest it’s yet to be fixed, however, but a new arrival could go some way to easing their woes.

Leicester City in talks to sign Max Aarons

Centre-backs have been linked with Leicester recently but right-back is another area of concern for the club.

At present, the Foxes have no natural backup for Justin, meaning the Englishman continues to start despite his obvious drop in form this season.

However, that issue could now be solved this month with the addition of out-of-favour Bournemouth full-back, Max Aarons.

Journalist Ekrem Konur has reported on X/Twitter that Leicester are now in talks with Aarons but face competition.

He wrote: “Leicester City, AS Roma and Galatasaray are in talks to sign AFC Bournemouth’s 24-year-old right-back Max Aarons on loan. The English player will make his decision soon.”

Leicester’s two Premier League loan slots are currently occupied but if Odsonne Edouard returns to Crystal Palace in January, it’ll open the door for Aarons to arrive.

What Leicester City fans need to know about Max Aarons

The right-back came up through Norwich City’s youth ranks before sealing a £7m transfer to Bournemouth in August 2023, as per the Bournemouth Echo.

Prior to leaving Norwich, former manager David Wagner praised the Leicester target, labeling him ‘very good’ as quoted by the Eastern Daily Press.

He said: “Max is a very, very good player, and he’s a very, very good character as well,” said the 51-year-old. “He loves this football club, he lives for this football club.

“He only likes to do everything that feels good for this football club. This is how he behaved.

“Everybody knows how highly we rate him as a player and as a person as well. He’s been absolutely top class.”

The 25-year-old notched 20 Premier League appearances during his debut campaign with the Cherries but has fallen down the pecking order this term, garnering just 85 minutes of action.
