Leicester City could sign a player Pep Guardiola has previously praised in the January transfer window.

The winter window has been open for less than a day but Leicester City have already seen a number of names tipped to make a move.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to be active this month as he looks to turn around the fortunes of the Midlands outfit.

Several centre-backs have been linked with Leicester in the last week or so – news that will likely delight fans as that is their biggest problem position right now outside of perhaps right-back.

However, other areas could also be strengthened at the King Power over the next four and a bit weeks.

Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is of interest to Leicester and now, another central midfielder has been linked to the club.

Leicester City interested in Shea Charles

The Foxes are fairly well stocked in the centre of the park but are seemingly keep their options open to improve.

Oliver Skipp and Hamza Choudhury haven’t been great this season and fans may welcome replacement for them in January.

Now, as per the Daily Mail, Southampton’s Shea Charles, currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, is attracting interest from Leicester.

However, Van Nistelrooy’s side are not the only ones looking at the 21-year-old currently.

West Ham United have looked at the player while Serie A outfit Atalanta BC are said to have scouted him in November.

What Pep Guardiola has said about Leicester-linked Shea Charles

As per the report from the Daily Mail, Southampton paid £12m for the Northern Irishman in the summer of 2023.

Prior to that, Charles was plying his trade with Manchester City, whom he began his career with and came up through their academy.

The Manchester-born star only made one senior appearance for the Sky Blues – playing 27 minutes of a 1-0 defeat to Brentford on May 28th, 2023.

But, as per the club’s official website, Pep Guardiola was quick to praise Charles for his display, dubbing him ‘really good’.

He said: “When you can make your debut, after joining the club at nine years old and grew up to make a debut is the biggest compliment for all the managers he had and the trainers and those that take care of him.

“I’m pretty sure it’s a big moment for him. We know him, he trains quite regularly with us, he’s so good, so composed.

“For these guys, the best way to give them the opportunity to play is to surround them with the normal team and protection but it’s not easy. Shea Charles against this team with top, top strikers, fast and strong, it’s not the easiest debut.

“At the same time, we don’t play for points. Kyle (Walker) helped him and Aymer (Laporte) and the other ones. He played really good and it’s fantastic for the academy.”
