Leicester City’s top five record signings: Where are they now?

Add as preferred source on Google

Leicester City’s owners have spent a fair wedge of cash over the last decade, particularly in the years that followed the 2016 Premier League title win.

Leicester were keen to build on the remarkable triumph as they heavily backed Claudio Ranieri that summer, allowing him to spend £76m, which at the time was a substantial amount.

Brendan Rodgers was also given a sizable budget early on his tenure, though, financial fair play regulations forced the club to limit their budget which led to a shock relegation in 2023.

With all that said, we’ve decided to dig back through the history booked and take a look at where Leicester’s top five record signings are now.

Spoiler, only one of them currently playing for the club.

5) Patson Daka (£25m)

Leicester outlaid a pretty sizable fee on Patson Daka in 2021.

Daka joined from Austrian giants RB Salzburg after netting a whopping 34 goals across 42 outings the previous season.

However, despite arriving with great fanfare, the Zambian forward has failed to live up to expectations as he’s very much been on the fringes behind Jamie Vardy.

Daka has scored just 23 goals in 112 appearances for the Foxes.

4) Islam Slimani (25.8m)

When Leicester signed Islam Slimani from Sporting a few months after they won the Premier League title, it was seen as a real coup.

However, despite breaking the club’s record transfer at the time, Slimani endured a really underwhelming few years at the club and eventually left for Lyon on a permanent deal in 2021.

The now 36-year-old plies his trade in the Belgian top-flight with KVC Westerlo.

3) Ayoze Perez (£27.9m)

Brendan Rodgers brought Ayoze Perez to Leicester for around £27m in 2019.

Perez had ended the previous campaign with Newcastle United in prolific form and was their top scorer that season.

Though, once again, the Spaniard was another big-money signing that never really worked out at the King Power outfit.

Fast forward to 2025, Perez is now flourishing in La Liga with Villarreal, having scored 14 times in 20 appearances.

He’s even made his way into the Spanish national team.

2) Wesley Fofana (£29.2m)

Wesley Fofana is Leicester’s second most expensive recruit of all time and he certainly lived up to this £29.2m pricetag during his two-year spell at the club.

Fofana established himself as one of the best young centre-backs on the continent in his debut campaign in the Premier League but unfortunately, a serious ankle injury in pre-season ruled him out for much of his second year.

Though, when he finally returned, the French defender picked up from where he left off and would later earn a £75m move to Chelsea.

Fofana has found it tough in the capital as injuries continue to plague his development.

1) Youri Tielemans (£37.6m)

And, the most expensive signing in Leicester’s history is indeed Youri Tielemans, who completed a record-breaking £37.6 move from Monaco during the summer of 2019.

Tielemans arrived in the January on an initial six-month loan deal but it quickly became apparent that Leicester simply had to sign him on a permanent deal.

He enjoyed four years in the East Midlands and scored perhaps the most notable goal in City’s recent history; the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea in 2021.

Tielemans now plays his football in the West Midlands with Aston Villa and he’s widely regarded as one of their most influential players.
