Leicester City are keen on bringing Ben Brereton Diaz back to the EFL as Villareal are willing to sell.

Chile international Ben Brereton Diaz has been touted as a potential move for Championship front-runners Leicester City.

Brereton Diaz is currently in La Liga with Villareal, however, The Yellow Submarines are now looking to sell according to reports.

The forward only joined Villareal in the summer, after departing Blackburn Rovers where he scored 47 goals in 177 appearances.

Now he could be set to return to the EFL and potentially the Premier League as English sides line up, with Enzo Maresca hoping to be front of the queue.

Leicester in transfer battle

According to a recent report from TeamTalk, Leicester are among several English sides who are believed to be keen on signing the Chilean.

Premier League sides Burnley and Crystal Palace are in the race too which makes Leicester’s position trickier, but it is worth noting that Leicester look odds on for promotion, while Burnley could be heading the other way.

Southampton and West Brom are also believed to be keen on Brereton Diaz but likely would find themselves fourth and fifth choice.

With Kelechi Iheanacho attracting interest from across Europe and England, Brereton Diaz might be the perfect replacement up front and also on the left.

Where would Brereton Diaz play?

The 21-cap Chile star is naturally a left-winger but is also a capable number nine. Brereton Diaz is a ‘dangerous finisher’ and has a proven record of scoring in the Championship. Obviously, Leicester are running clear, but as shown a few times this season, they can be stopped with stubborn defences.

Therefore a player like Diaz could be the key needed to unlock the defences which are proving stubborn when the Foxes are in town, thanks to his ‘many qualities‘ that his Chile boss has praised .

In rotation with Jamie Vardy and Stephy Mavididi on the left, Brereton Diaz would be a really strong option to have in Maresca’s side.

It would also be a coup to sign him ahead of a club like Palace who are well established in the Premier League at this stage, as Leicester prepare themselves for a return to the pinnacle of English football.
