They say you should never go back a second time in life but, for Leicester City, it could be exactly what they need.

The January transfer window is days away from opening and plans are being put in place to ensure that Ruud van Nistelrooy can bring in some new faces.

With three Leicester stars out of contract in 2025, extra funds could be generated to bring in players.

One area that arguably needs significant improvement is the centre-back role. Defensive targets have been assessed by Leicester and the Foxes could make one move that would see a former star return to the King Power Stadium.

With 1 January signalilng the start of the winter transfer window, it also means crunch time for players out of contract in 2025.

Premier League stars with less than six months on their deal can talk to clubs outside of England to arrange a pre-contract deal while those closer to home could negotiate a cut-price deal.

Manchester United’s Harry Maguire is one of those and it looks like his days are numbered at Old Trafford.

A number of clubs have been linked with Maguire, including Leicester.

According to The Athletic, a return to the East Midlands would have an “emotional pull” for the England international, who was admired by Van Nistelrooy.

With less than six months left, the Foxes could make a cut-price deal that could see him return to Leicester for a considerably smaller fee than the £80m they received for him in 2019.

The one stumbling block Leicester face in Harry Maguire move

As with any transfer fee, there are some obstacles to overcome if a move for Maguire suffices.

Most notably, his wages will prove to be a big issue. As per Capology, Maguire is earning £190,000 a week which would make him the highest earner at Leicester.

The defender would have to take a pay cut to rejoin the club and with Leicester’s financial issues well documented, it may not be a transfer they could pull off.
