Leicester City crashed out of the FA Cup on Friday evening thanks to there being no VAR to rule out Harry Maguire’s offside goal.
Leicester City had an excellent first 45 at Old Trafford, keeping Manchester United’s attack at bay and dominating the midfield battle.
They didn’t create a lot but when the Foxes finally got a chance, they took it. Wilfred Ndidi ran the show in the first half and was instrumental in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side going 1-0 up.
He made a darting run into the United box and forced a save out of Andre Onana, who parried the effort straight at Bobby De Cordova-Reid to head into the net.
The second half was almost all in Man Utd’s favour, however, with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and an offside Harry Maguire seeing Leicester lose 2-1 and exit the FA Cup.

Ian Wright and Roy Keane react to Harry Maguire offside goal for Manchester United vs Leicester City
Leicester were dominated in the second 45 but to go out of the game in such a fashion was very harsh.
It was evident that Maguire was well offside for the winner and former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane and ex-Arsenal ace Ian Wright have reacted to the call.
The duo were pundits covering the game live on ITV and were in total agreement about the bizarre decision made by the linesman on the night.
Wright said: “Look where the linesman is – he’s bang in line with it”
While Keane added: “That’s just a poor decision. We talk about VAR and if it should be here or whatever but the linesman’s got to see that, he has to see that. But obviously United took full advantage of it.”
Why VAR wasn’t used during Manchester United vs Leicester City
VAR is not exactly popular among football fans but Leicester supporters will wish it was in place on Friday evening.
The reason VAR was not used during Man United vs Leicester was set out by the FA in December 2024.
This was a fourth-round meeting and the technology will not be in place until the next phase.
The reason for this is to ensure ‘that there is a consistent refereeing approach for all clubs taking part in the same stage of the competition’.
