‘I thought’ – Gary Lineker reveals what he did during Leicester City’s heavy defeat against Brentford

Gary Lineker, like all Leicester City fans, isn’t enjoying life when it comes to watching the Foxes.

Leicester were beaten by Brentford last weekend to leave them five points adrift of safety and 19th in the Premier League table.

The defeat saw the Foxes go into the history books for the wrong reasons as they became the first English top flight side to lose six home games in a row without scoring.

Poor results on the pitch and mismanagement off of it have had some Leicester supporters wanting Ruud van Nistelrooy sacked whilst others have protested against director of football, Jon Rudkin.

Even Lineker thinks Leicester will be relegated now after the most recent result and he has revealed what his reaction was mid-game.

Gary Lineker’s reaction to Leicester defeat

A Leicester legend, Lineker always wears his heart on his sleeve and tries to see the positive in anything the Foxes do.

However, it’s becoming an increasingly tall order for the Match of the Day host to do so.

He revealed on the latest episode of his podcast, The Rest is Football, that he actually missed the start of the game but, when he had sat down to watch it, he immediately turned it off.

“Leicester got spanked,” Lineker said in an honest reflection.

“We went out for an early dinner with the aim of coming back and watching Leicester but got a little bit late.

“By the time I got home, they were 3-0 down. I thought ‘God’s sake, sod it, I’m going to bed.”

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree on Premier League relegation verdict

It was another dismal weekend for the three teams promoted from the Championship last season.

All of them conceded four goals in their respective games which, unsurprisingly resulted in three defeats.

Leicester, Ipswich Town and Southampton occupy the relegation spots and both Lineker and Alan Shearer feel that it’s inevitable they all head back to the second tier.

Lineker said: “It’ll be the second successive season that unless one of them stages a miraculous recovery, which I can’t see, the three promoted clubs will go straight back down.”

Shearer replied: “It does feel like a really pivotal weekend at both ends of the table because of West Ham and Wolves winning.

“A weekend where it’s almost done. That’s what it feels like.”
