Leicester City need to do something only one other team has managed all season against Man United

Leicester City are preparing to welcome Manchester United for their next Premier League game. The Foxes are embroiled in a relegation battle, and may not have enough to survive.

Although Ipswich were thumped by Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Wolves’ 2-1 win over Southampton plunged the Foxes further into trouble.

Ruud van Nistelrooy needs a miracle, and with Manchester United at the King Power up next, things aren’t getting any easier.

Leicester City need to do what another team did against Man United

For Leicester City, facing Manchester United, even during their worst-ever season, is no easy task. The Foxes must take all three points off Ruben Amorim’s men if they’re to keep their Premier League survival hopes alive — a draw simply won’t do.

And unfortunately for Van Nistelrooy, the form books are not on his side. In fact, if he’s to take anything off his old club, he must do what only one other side has managed all season.

Crystal Palace are the only team to beat Manchester United following a mid-week win in the Europa League.

Amorim’s side have played 10 European matches — eight in the group phase — and remain unbeaten, winning six and drawing four.

With the exception of a 2-0 defeat against Palace last month, which came after a 2-0 win over FCSB, Manchester United have won every league game after they’ve beaten an opponent in the Europa League.

Following the Red Devils’ mid-week 4-1 win over Real Sociedad, Leicester City must attempt to repeat what Oliver Glasner managed.

The Foxes need a miracle

Even though there are still 10 games left to play, the Premier League table makes for tough reading for Leicester City and their loyal supporters.

Six points adrift before Wolves beat Southampton, the Foxes have known for a while the odds are stacked against them.

Failure to beat Manchester United on Sunday will see the gap between Leicester City and safety increase to an almost-insurmountable nine points.

Time is running out, and the prospect of playing in the Championship next season is becoming reality.

Whether Van Nistelrooy keeps his job remains to be seen, but it is incredibly unlikely the Leicester City owners will stick with the struggling Dutchman.
