Leicester City player ratings vs Wolves includes ‘disastrous’ 2/10 display as Foxes’ relegation fears intensify

Leicester City’s relegation fears were done no favours as they were hammered at home by Wolves in a huge six-pointer.

Leicester fans were angered after Danny Ward was selected, with Mads Hermansen unable to recover from the groin injury picked up last weekend.

It was the away side who took the lead as Goncalo Guedes pulled away from Jannik Vestergaard to meet Nelson Semedo’s lofted ball into the box and poke the ball past Ward.

It went from bad to worse for the Foxes as James Justin then completely misjudged a cross-field ball from Matt Doherty as Rodrigo Gomes was allowed to bundle the ball past Ward, who didn’t cover himself in glory again.

Mattheus Cunha then made it three on the stroke of half time as Leicester fans booed Ward and Justin before directing their anger to the whole team.

Defeat means Leicester are just two points clear of the bottom three and with a tricky trio of fixtures to come, the odds are stacked against them.

With that, here is how Leicester City News have assessed the performance of the Foxes against Wolves.

Danny Ward – 2/10

Leicester fans will be hoping and praying that Mads Hermansen is back in goal next weekend as without him, they have hope of survival.

Ward was disastrous yet again and for both his and the club’s sake, a move needs to be sorted in January as this cannot continue.

James Justin – 2/10

It feels like groundhog day at this point. Time and time again, James Justin has been involved in errors that have led to goals being conceded.

Loud cheers were heard when he was substituted for Hamza Choudhury, who is traditionally a midfielder.

Conor Coady – 4/10

An unhappy meeting against a club that means so much to him. Was way too slow to react to Guedes’ movement for the Wolves opener and was part of a back four that just seemed devoid of any pace.

Conor Coady is renowned for being a great leader but that didn’t seem to be the case as the defence lacked any sort of organisation.

Jannik Vestergaard – 3/10

Was hooked at half time after one of his worst performances of the season. Let Guedes stroll away from far too easily for Wolves’ opener and never looked like recovering or dealing with the pace of Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Victor Kristiansen – 4/10

Was really poor for the third goal and couldn’t get into the game at all.

A full-back should be on Leicester’s transfer shopping list and among the top priorities.

Oliver Skipp – 4/10

Another uninspiring display from one of the Foxes’ biggest summer expenses.

There is definitely a player in there somewhere, but he is some way off showing any signs of it.

Boubakary Soumare – 6/10

Looked lively in the middle of the park and was as tenacious as ever. Clutching at straws but his driving runs from deep when travelling with the ball are great to watch.

Slipped away in the second half but by then the game was done.

Jordan Ayew 4/10

There’s a reason why Jordan Ayew has a super-sub nickname: because he is better when he doesn’t start.

Slows the game down far too much and looks like he is running through treacle at times due to his lack of pace.

If you’re Facundo Buonanotte, you’re scratching your head and wondering what on Earth you’ve done wrong to be demoted to the bench.

Bilal El Khannouss – 6/10

Like Soumare, was one of the only ones who looked interested today.

Tried a couple of nice threaded-through balls that had just a bit too much on it for Jamie Vardy. His defence let him down however and despite his best efforts, couldn’t get anything going.

Stephy Mavididi – 4/10

Nelson Semedo had his number all afternoon as Stephy Mavididi tried multiple times to beat him in a one-on-one.

Had a few nice exchanges with Soumare but barely threatened. Needs improvement on his crossing.

Jamie Vardy – 5/10

Fed off scraps all game and was outmarked by Wolves’ back five all afternoon. Didn’t have enough chances to cause any problems and was let down by players in the defence.
