Leicester City were once again on the losing side in the Premier League as Manchester United swept the Foxes away 3-0.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was unable to get anything against his former club as a toothless Leicester rolled over for the Red Devils to doom themselves to a 13th Premier League defeat in 14 games, with relegation now looking certain after Wolves’ win against Southampton on Saturday.

Although the international break offers some restbite for Leicester, things do not get any easier for the Foxes with Manchester City next up for the King Power Stadium side, followed by ties against Carabao Cup winners Newcastle United and Premier League leaders Liverpool.

And for pundit Troy Deeney, one thing has to be addressed at Leicester heading into the summer transfer window.

Leicester told to get player recruitment right this summer

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, the former Watford captain was critical of Leicester’s player recruitment since returning to the Premier League, with the Foxes simply getting everything wrong when it came to bringing in quality to help compete in the English top-flight.

Leicester fans protested against sporting director Jon Rudkin during their loss against United with the club’s owners seemingly at fault for how disastrous this Premier League season has been for the East Midlands side.

And Deeney believes the recruitment has to improve if Leicester are to become a force in the Premier League again, with the pundit saying: “It is grim, I’ve been in relegation battles and you look at those games, you’ve got to score in them.

“You can take losing to Manchester United and Arsenal, but to not score and to have seven losses, whether it’s Ruud or the board, nothing seems to be going right, they need to have a real look over these next couple of weeks on what they want to do moving forward and get that recruitment right in the summer, for me, their recruitment has been all over the place.”

Leicester board are paying heavily for incompetent decisions

It feels like every step the Leicester board has made this season has been made to ensure the Foxes return to the Championship as quickly as possible, with Van Nistelrooy’s side looking like they don’t want to belong in the Premier League.

From the appointment of Steve Cooper to uninspiring signings, Leicester have made countless poor decisions this season that will lead to another relegation from the Premier League in what has been another disastrous year.

And as Deeney himself said, Leicester need a new long-term plan in place ahead of their return to the English second-tier, with the Foxes proving throughout the years they have the footballing nous to perform well above expectations.
