Andy King is a modern-day Leicester City legend who is adored by the entire fanbase.

King spent 16 years in total at Leicester and 14 in the first-team set up, becoming an integral part of their rise from League One to the Premier League.

The Welshman amassed 379 appearances for the Foxes before exiting the King Power Stadium in 2020 and then spent the final three years of his career at Bristol City.

A huge part of Leicester’s Premier League title win in 2016, King played with so many incredible players during his time at the club, previously naming one as his best teammate.

Andy King on Jamie Vardy being the best he’s ever played with

It’s hard to ignore how many sensational players have pulled on the Leicester jersey. Ball-winning machine N’Golo Kante became a stalwart in midfield for his contributions during the 2015/16 campaign, as did Riyad Mahrez.

One of the most technically gifted players to grace the hallowed Leicester turf, Mahrez inspired his side to Premier League title glory nine years ago alongside Jamie Vardy, who King named as the best player he’s played with.

Speaking on Soccer AM’s ‘teammates gold’ series in November 2020, King said: “The best player I’ve probably played with is Jamie Vardy, a couple of contenders Mahrez, Kante.

“But I think just for the prolonged effect he’s had over Leicester City, over 100 Premier League goals, not many people in Premier League history have got that, so for him to do that at a club like Leicester is absolutely amazing.”

It’s hard to disagree with his selection, as Vardy has become one of the greatest players in the club’s history since signing from Fleetwood Town for £1 million in 2012.

King said Vardy departing wouldn’t impact Leicester

Vardy, who has been dubbed ‘unstoppable’, scored 24 goals on Leicester’s way to winning the league title in 2016.

Unsurprisingly, several clubs were interested in his signature, but Vardy famously rejected a transfer to Arsenal in favour of staying at the King Power Stadium.

But before the Englishman committed his future, King said that their talisman leaving wouldn’t have impacted the squad’s team spirit.

“I wasn’t surprised when I heard about Vards because all of our players have had brilliant seasons and are going to be linked with big clubs,” King said via TNT Sports in 2016.

“For Leicester it is going to be a summer of speculation of incomings and outgoings. Nothing has happened yet and it will probably be a long transfer window.

“But I don’t think it will affect the squad. It is 25 players in a squad and, if one or two decide they want to go and play their football elsewhere, we wish them all the best.”

Supporters were delighted last month as King joined the coaching staff at Leicester after hanging up his boots in 2024, linking up with Ruud van Nistelrooy in a bid to keep his beloved side in the top flight.
