Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca has said, the club signed Tom Cannon from Everton, despite knowing he had a back injury.

Cannon signed for the club late into the transfer window and is still yet to make an appearance for the Foxes this season.

The striker spent last season at Preston North End on loan and looked to be part of the Toffees’ plans.

Despite this, a move had been rumoured all summer and in the end, he secured a move to the King Power.

In 20 appearances for Preston, he scored eight goals and at 20-years old he looks like one for the future.

What has Enzo Maresca said about Tom Cannon?

It appears that the Foxes were fully aware of a stress fracture in Cannon’s back, but in spite of this, they made the signing.

On this, Maresca said: “We found a problem when he signed. At the moment he is not even training with us, so it will be quite long-term I guess.

“We still don’t know how long. He didn’t train any sessions with us.”

Cannon has played for Everton this season, in a 1-0 loss to Wolves, but it appears he will not be making his Foxes debut any time soon.

Despite him being out, Maresca is happy with his signing: “It is a long-term investment it doesn’t mean we don’t need him now.

“We prefer to be careful with that and make all the checks that we need to do.”

With striker options aplenty, Cannon can take all the time he needs to return to full fitness and play his part.

Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho represent more than good enough quality in that position.
