Enzo Maresca wanted Leicester to sign ‘amazing’ striker in 2024, now he’s proving his worth at another Premier League club

Leicester City haven’t enjoyed much success in the transfer market in recent times.

The Foxes’ summer arrivals have failed to make the desired impact at the King Power Stadium, with Oliver Skipp’s signing being deemed a disaster by some.

Fellow 2024 signings Jordan Ayew and Odsonne Edouard have also flattered to deceive, leaving many to question the thinking behind Foxes’ recruitment.

Leicester’s poor transfer policy also saw them miss out on a number of targets last summer, one of those being striker Eddie Nketiah.

Former Leicester target Eddie Nketiah picking up form

The Foxes failed to sign any notable forwards during the summer window, that is despite Leicester being linked with Nketiah back in April.

Then manager Enzo Maresca was reportedly keen on bringing in the English striker, as a possible replacement/understudy for veteran forward Jamie Vardy.

Leicester, however, were unable to get the deal done, with Nketiah eventually joining fellow Premier League outfit Crystal Palace in August.

The former Arsenal forward initially struggled at Selhurst Park, mainly playing second fiddle to Jean-Philippe Mateta – he has however started to provide the goods in recent weeks.

Having bagged two goals in his last two games – the latest of those coming against Millwall in the FA Cup – Nketiah is starting to prove his worth in south London, potentially showing Leicester why they should have signed him.

Nketiah would have been better option for Leicester this summer

Nketiah has of course struggled at times this season, but that is mainly due to a lack of gametime under Oliver Glasner.

The 25-year-old’s 19 Premier League appearances have largely come off the bench, with the striker failing to get into the rhythm of things at Palace.

With that being said, Nketiah may have fared better at a club who could have handed him more gametime – Leicester potentially being one of those.

Recently described as ‘amazing’ by Palace boss Glasner (via Crystal Palace website), Nketiah would have undoubtedly added more quality to the Foxes forward line than the likes of Edouard and Daka.

Leicester’s signing of Edouard was a very weird signing – one that was made even weirder when Nketiah was also on the market.
