Leicester City have had many players that have gone into the world of management after hanging up their boots for good.
The most recent of those to join the managerial circus is former Leicester defender Alan Sheehan, who has been confirmed as Swansea City’s interim manager until the end of the season.
He will be joined by fellow former Fox and teammate Richard Stearman, who left his role at non-league Solihull Moors to join Sheehan in south Wales.
They’re not the only ones who have become managers/coaches over the years, so here’s five former Leicester players that have swapped the pitch for the technical area.
Tom Cleverley – Watford

One of the more high-profile names, Tom Cleverley had a loan spell during Leicester’s League One campaign in the 08/09 season, scoring two goals in 15 games before having to leave early due to a season-ending injury.
Cleverley is now managing Championship club Watford after stepping up from interim head coach to being given the job on a permanent basis in April 2024. He’s now got the Hornets within an outside shout of the play-offs
Joey Gudjonsson – AB
The Icelandic midfielder enjoyed two years at the King Power Stadium, then named the Walkers Stadium, between 2004-06. Joey Gudjonsson did score one of the great goals, an effort from the halfway line, and was the top scorer in the 05/06 season.
Since retirement, Gudjonsson has been managing back in his homeland but was appointed by Danish third tier side AB in May 2024 and has been there ever since.
Richie Wellens – Leyton Orient

Richie Wellens is a fan favourite and epitomised everything about Nigel Pearson’s first spell in charge of the Foxes.
Wellens has been successful as a manager in the lower leagues of English football, winning two League Two titles and currently has Leyton Orient punching well above their weight and competing for a play-off spot in League One.
Some Leicester fans want Wellens to become the manager if current boss Ruud van Nistelrooy decides to leave at the end of the season.
Alan Maybury – Stirling Albion
Whilst some former Leicester players have managed to land jobs in the Championship, Alan Maybury can be found in the dugout in the fourth tier of Scottish football.
Maybury spent three years in the East Midlands between 2005-2008 before leaving following relegation to League One.
The defender has only ever managed in Scotland since retiring, first at Edinburgh City before moving on to Stirling, where he has been since 2024.
Neil Lennon – Dunfermline
Everybody is aware of Neil Lennon’s two spells in charge of Celtic, as well as forming part of the successful Leicester team in the late 90s under Martin O’Neill.
Lennon enjoyed most of his success at Celtic in comparison to times at Hibernian, Bolton Wanderers and Rapid Bucharest.
The former midfielder has recently made a return to the dugout after being appointed by Scottish Championship side Dunfermline following work as a pundit on Sky Sports.
