Get to know Wilfred Ndidi, the Leicester City midfielder who has become a fan favourite

Wilfred Ndidi has been at Leicester City for over seven years now and established himself as a fan favourite amongst the Foxes fanbase.

Ndidi joined Leicester in January 2017 ahead of the knockout stages of the Champions League and was deemed as the replacement for N’Golo Kante.

In his time at the King Power Stadium, Ndidi has won the FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship title and has transformed from a bright, young midfielder into a senior figure.

There’s been speculation about his future in the East Midlands, with Ndidi signing a new contract in the summer of 2024 after almost leaving.

His agent also ruled out a departure for the Nigerian in the recent January 2025 transfer window and looks set to remain here for the future.

Where and when was Wilfred Ndidi born?

Ndidi was born in Lagos, Nigeria on 16 December 1998.

Both of his parents are Nigerian and he spent his younger days there, as well as beginning his professional career before moving to Belgium to join Genk.

When did Wilfred Ndidi join Leicester City and how much did he sign for?

Wilfred Ndidi signed for Leicester City from Belgian Pro League side Genk in January 2017.

Leicester reportedly paid £15m for his services and since then, Ndidi has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Foxes.

Ndidi primarily plays in a defensive midfield role but is also capable of playing in a more advanced role.

Under Enzo Maresca, Ndidi was deployed in the number eight role and was instrumental in many of Leicester’s attacking plays.

In 2019, Ndidi began studying for a Business and Management at De Montfort University in Leicester.

He graudated in 2022 and at the time of his degree in 2019, he told Sportsmail: “I have spare time, so instead of sitting and playing FIFA, it’s good to understand the four walls of schooling.

“In Nigeria some players want to play football and then they forget about school. But if you do both you can continue with whichever one works out, instead of just hoping for football, football — and then you don’t make it.”
