Defeat for the Foxes would’ve almost certainly put the writing on the wall in terms of the Midlands outfit’s survival hopes.
That wasn’t to be the case but plenty of work still needs to be done to avoid the drop.
Van Nistelrooy’s side are actually worse off at this stage of the season compared to where they were in the 2022/23 campaign – when Leicester were relegated on the final day of the season.
After 23 games that season, the Foxes were actually six points better off than they are today and also sat three places higher in 14th.
| Leicester City after 23 games | League Posititon | Points |
| 2022/23 | 14th | 24 |
| 2024/25 | 17th | 17 |
The year the Foxes went down, they finished 18th with a total of 34 points, finishing two points behind 17th placed Everton who stayed up with 36 points.
It seems that it will be a three-way battle for one spot featuring Wolves and Ipswich Town.
Leicester City can’t afford to be complacent
Sunday’s win against Tottenham could prove to be the big turning point but the Foxes can’t rest on their laurels.
As proved by the way the 2022/23 campaign ended, Leicester can have survival in their own hands and still end up being relegated.
Three points is a start but the East Midlands giants still have plenty of tough fixtures to come and Van Nistelrooy, the players and everyone else associated with Leicester know that the biggest tests are still on the horizon.
