Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca was very happy with his side’s performance in spite of a 3-1 loss against Liverpool in the EFL Cup.

It was a dream start at Anfield as Casey McAteer opened the scoring after just three minutes.

Great work from Yunus Akgun who calmly slid McAteer in and he finished with aplomb.

The Foxes saw out their lead until halftime, but Cody Gakpo put the hosts’ level on 48 minutes.

The Premier League outfit were ahead on 70 minutes thanks to a Dominic Szoboszlai wonder goal.

A Diogo Jota goal sealed Leicester’s fate as a 3-1 defeat was confirmed seeing them knocked out of the cup.

What did Enzo Maresca say after Liverpool?

In spite of the loss, the Italian coach was happy at full-time.

On his side, he said: “I’m very proud with the way we came to this stadium, against this opponent.

“We tried to play the way we have played every game.”

The Foxes didn’t change and stuck to Maresca’s philosophy.

On that, he said: “I’m very pleased for all the players because tonight they are to be proud for the way they played and for being brave and showing the way we want to play.”

The manager understood the result wasn’t what he wanted, but the performance was top-notch.

Discussing that point, he said: “A defeat is a defeat in the end, but before the game, I told them that our target was to come here and play in the way we play.”

Encouraging signs moving forward, going toe to toe with second place in the Premier League is no easy feat.
