Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard has been criticised for his performances with Denmark during the international break.
The November international break for Leicester City’s players has been a mixed bag with Wilfred Ndidi performing well for Nigeria but Wout Faes struggled for Belgium and was criticised in the media.
Steve Cooper’s Leicester are sat in 15th place in the Premier League which is certainly better than expected after Enzo Maresca departed for Chelsea during the summer.
One player who hasn’t really been involved as much as he would like this season is Danish defender Jannik Vestergaard and things don’t appear to be working out well for the former Southampton defender.

Jannik Vestergaard criticised after Denmark defeat
Since the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign, Vestergaard has played just four Premier League games and there was confusion as to why Steve Cooper had omitted the Danish defender.
It was certainly not a confidence-boosting evening for Vestergaard who failed to track Mikel Oyarzabal’s run with the Real Sociedad forward opening the scoring for La Roja in the UEFA Nations League clash.
After a missed interception from the Foxes defender, Ayoze Perez, formerly of Leicester, stole in to add a second for the Spanish and Vestergaard was roundly criticised for his performance.
Danish outlet Tipsbladet did not hold back with their assessment of the defender, they wrote: “Wow, what a mouthful, Vestergaard. It was unrecognizable to the towering defender, who with great performances has developed into a national team profile (in a three-man defense) in 2024.
“Because the weavers and fast Spaniards had learned their lesson, and served a tapas board of deep passes, intense pressure and fast movements that Vestergaard got in the mad neck. It looked terrible at the 0-1 goal and he rarely seemed on top with the ball or in defense.”
The future is uncertain for Jannik Vestergaard at Leicester
It appears his confidence has perhaps unsurprisingly taken a hit from being left out by Cooper as he struggled hugely on the international stage and his club future looks uncertain.
Vestergaard had been carrying an ankle problem last month but had recovered in time for these internationals but he looks a player devoid of confidence.
With just a few weeks remaining until the January transfer window, perhaps a transfer away from the King Power Stadium will be the smart decision.
