Kasper Schmeichel has always had high standards as a footballer.

Schmeichel has immortalised himself as a Leicester City legend, winning one Championship league title, a Premier League crown, FA Cup and Community Shield across an 11-year period.

To be as successful as Schmeichel has, you can’t afford to let your standards slip and it’s why the 38-year-old continues to thrive at Celtic, despite never wanting to leave Leicester.

Nothing is ever guaranteed in life and despite defying the odds to win the first-ever top-flight title in the Foxes’ history, there was still one moment that left him irked on the final day of the season.

Kasper Schmeichel blames Jeffrey Schlupp for missing out on Golden Glove

With the Premier League title already wrapped up in the 2015/16 season, Schmeichel had one other thing on his mind: The Golden Glove.

Awarded to the goalkeeper who has kept the most clean sheets throughout the season, he was tied on 15 along with Joe Hart and David De Gea.

Petr Cech ended up taking home the award with 16, but Schmeichel can distinctively remember missing out on the final day of the season against Chelsea after the Foxes gave away a penalty in the last minute.

Asked if he could remember it well, the Danish international instantly recalled the moment and said that Jeffrey Schlupp was responsible for him missing out.

Speaking on the latest edition of The Overlap, he said: “The year we [Leicester] won the league I lost the Golden Glove because someone gave away a penalty at Chelsea.”

Jamie Carragher then asked: “Who gave it away?” before Schmeichel responded: “Jeff Schlupp.”

He added: “The game before we had the chance to as well but N’Golo Kante missed his first tackle of the season and Kevin Mirallas scored. That definitely sticks in my mind.”

Kasper Schmeichel and current Leicester City player encouraged Jeff Schlupp to make Celtic move

As fate would happen, Schmeichel and Schlupp would reunite together when the latter completed a winter transfer window deadline day move to Celtic.

The Leicester academy graduate has already become a fan favourite at Celtic Park and recently scored his first goal for the club against St Mirren.

Schlupp was asked by Sky Sports if he had spoken to Schmeichel before making the move north of the border and the Ghana international explained the role his former title-winning teammate had, as well as current Leicester player, Odsonne Edouard.

He said: “I spoke to Kasper and he just said how much he loves it here and how much I would love it here if I came to the club. With the coach and the winning mentality here, it would be just great to be a part of something like that.

“I spoke to Odsonne Edouard plenty of times about Celtic. He came down to Palace from Celtic and he loved his time at the club and he told me how much I would love it and that it was a great city. It was an easy sell for me.”
