Leicester City could actually dictate when the transfer window shuts, even if they’re relegated

Leicester City could have the chance to change when the transfer window will shut for Premier League clubs next season – even if they aren’t a part of it.

Traditionally, the summer transfer window opens after the Champions League, in this year’s case Thursday 12 June, and end on 31 August or 2 September at the latest.

However, the 20 Premier League clubs are set to vote on when the transfer window will shut and the Foxes could play a role in any new changes.

Premier League clubs to vote on when the transfer window closes

According to The Telegraph, the top flight clubs will meet on Thursday to discuss the possibility of closing the transfer window on 14 August, two days before the start of the season.

All 20 clubs will come together to vote, with 14 votes in favour needed to pass the motion.

Some sporting directors have discussed the idea as they believe it will benefit managers by having their squad in place before the start of the season.

Where they may fall short though is convincing other European leagues to comply, as well as the more powerful than ever Saudi Pro League which in turn, could bring an end to the proposal.

Other discussions have also been proposed to cut the January transfer window down to a two-week period.

Will Leicester be affected if the transfer window dates change?

Simply, it depends on whether or not the Foxes are in the Premier League.

Leicester will definitely be a part of the vote and given that they may be relegated to the Championship, could affect the vote without feeling the effects themselves.

There’s every chance the EFL could follow suit and align with the top flight’s decision, like they did back in 2018 and 2019, when English football previously voted to close the window earlier before reverting back to the current model they use.
