Leicester City have made some transfer blunders over the years, missing out on watching some exceptional talent at the King Power Stadium.
Underfire director of football Jon Rudkin celebrated his 10th anniversary at Leicester City on Monday, and most supporters will regard his decade at the club as unsuccessful.
Leicester fans have called for Rudkin to quit on numerous occasions this term, especially after Ruud van Nistelrooy only signed one player in the January transfer window.
Rudkin’s failures in the market have also been highlighted by the several stars he failed to bring to the club. For instance, Leicester wanted to sign Lois Openda in 2022 from RC Lens but a transfer never came to fruition.
And it was a similar story when Brendan Rodgers wanted to capture arguably one of Europe’s best strikers currently.

Leicester City wanted to sign Serhou Guirassy in 2020
Leicester still need to find a long-term replacement for veteran striker Jamie Vardy as his contract expires in June 2025.
According to the Mail Online, the Foxes could have landed an ideal successor to the 38-year-old in January 2020 as they were interested in Serhou Guirassy.
The powerful forward was plying his trade at Ligue 1 side Amiens at the time after sealing a £5 million transfer from Koln in the summer of 2019.
However, despite the fact Amiens were willing to sell Guirassy for a cut price in the January window, Leicester didn’t return with an offer and Rennes then snapped him up in the summer of 2020.
Now 28, the Guinea international has since emerged as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, scoring 44 goals in 58 appearances for Stuttgart before being snapped up by Dortmund last summer after they triggered his £14.7 million release clause.
Leicester City will have transfer regret as Guirassy shines in the Champions League
While Leicester are the fourth-lowest scorers in the Premier League league, their former target Guirassy is shining in the Champions League.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 17 | 24 | 5 | 4 | 15 | 34 | 52 | -18 | 19 | |
| 18 | 24 | 4 | 5 | 15 | 25 | 53 | -28 | 17 | |
| 19 | 24 | 3 | 7 | 14 | 22 | 49 | -27 | 16 |
| Champions League top scorers 2024/25 | Goals |
|---|---|
| S. Guirassy – Dortmund | 9 |
| R. Lewandowski – Barcelona | 9 |
| Raphinha – Barcelona | 8 |
| Vinícius Junior – Real Madrid | 7 |
| A. Griezmann – Atletico | 6 |
As shown by the above table, Guirassy has an impressive nine goals in just eight appearances, putting him joint-top with Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski.
Considering Leicester could have captured the Guinea goal machine for a cut-price five years ago, watching him develop into one of Europe’s best will hurt deep down.
