Leicester City fans have a lot to say about the future of Hamza Choudhury, opinion is split

Hamza Choudhury has been on Leicester City’s books for nearly a decade but fans are split over the midfielder’s future at the club.

Hamza Choudhury began his youth career with Leicester City and was promoted to their U21 side all the way back in 2015.

He featured 55 times for the Foxes’ youth team and after a loan spell with Burton Albion, was promoted to their senior squad in 2018.

Choudhury has since made 131 appearances for the Midlands outfit, in which he has scored two and assisted four.

However, the 27-year-old saw his game time heavily reduced in the first half of 2024/25, only garnering 130 minutes in the Premier League.

In turn, I wasn’t too much of a surprise when Choudhury joined Sheffield United on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Leicester City fans debate Hamza Choudhury future

He has so far made five appearances for The Blades, who are battling for automatic promotion from the second tier.

Now, the future of Choudhury, who is under contract until 2027, has been debated by Leicester fans over the weekend.

Opinion is split, but there are a few more supporters who would like to see him sold in the summer.

One fan wrote: “I’d say keep but his wages are a massive issue, has to go.”

A second stated: “Sell not good enough. Been on the bench last couple of games for Sheff Utd.”

A third added: “Get rid hasn’t got a forward pass in him and he thinks he’s better than he is.”

“If we go down let’s clear all the dead wood and start again. It’s the only way we’re going to move forward. Blood the youngest and add domestic league experience and players that want to play fight for the club,” another fan wrote.

While a fifth added: “He has a mega deal until 2038 leave the lad alone,” and a sixth simply replied: “Keep.”

Hamza Choudhury wage at Leicester City

If Leicester are relegated this season, having a player of his ability could prove useful in the Championship.

But as one fan pointed out above, Choudhury is earning a decent wage that may not be justified given how few minutes he played for the Foxes in the first half of 2024/25.

Capology report that the midfielder is earning £50,000-a-week at Leicester, which is on the higher side for one of their players.

And given the PSR problems the club have had and could still face, it may be wise if he’s moved on in the summer.
