Jamie Vardy remains one of Leicester City’s best players despite turning 38 next month.

Leicester City signed Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town in 2012 and what a signing that has proven to be.

The striker is currently the Foxes’ third top scorer in history with a staggering 191 goals netted.

He was absolutely crucial to Leicester’s historic Premier League title-winning campaign, scoring 24 goals and assisting seven in 36 ties.

Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record in that season as well, netting in 11 consecutive matches.

Over a decade after signing, the 37-year-old is still leading the line for the Midlands outfit in the 2024/25 season.

Van Nistelrooy praised Vardy ahead of Brighton and will be hoping the centre-forward adds to his tally of five goals in 13 league matches when they make the trip to the Amex on Sunday.

Former Leicester City flop Ayoze Perez shining at Villarreal

Ayoze Perez arrived at the King Power Stadium in 2019 from Newcastle United for a fee of around £30m.

The Spaniard had previously impressed in the North East, scoring 12 and assisting two in 37 league matches during the 2018/19 season.

But for whatever reason, his time with Leicester just really didn’t work out.

The now 31-year-old notched 114 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions yet he only found the back of the net 15 times.

After such a poor stint, he was released by Leicester as a free agent at the end of 2022/23, joining Real Betis.

Villareal then snapped the striker up during the 2024 summer transfer window and he has enjoyed immense success at his new club.

So far, he has scored seven goals in nine La Liga matches and a very impressive 10 goals in 11 across all competitions this term.

In comparison, Vardy has five goals in 13 Premier League games – yet to line out in any cup competitions.

Jamie Vardy needs help at Leicester City

At the time, it made sense for Leicester not to renew Perez’s deal given how much they paid to sign him and how few goals he produced.

But Ruud could really do with a striker in Perez’s form for the Foxes in the current campaign.

Outside of Vardy, the Midlands side don’t really have any quality centre-forward options on their books right now.

Odsonne Edouard struggled under Steve Cooper and is yet to line out for his new manager, while Patson Daka showed signs of quality off the bench against West Ham United but has never been a prolific Premier League goalscorer.
