Leicester City are staring down the barrel of a second Premier League relegation in the last three seasons.

Leicester reside in 19th and have been cut 12 points adrift from 17th-placed Wolves, who are now all but safe.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side picked up their seventh consecutive defeat last night, as Manchester City cruised to a 2-0 victory at the Etihad stadium.

Leicester’s player ratings against Man City didn’t make for pretty reading, with even Mads Hermansen scoring particularly low.

Leicester fans urged for Ruud van Nistelrooy to be sacked after the game and now reports suggest he could be replaced in the summer.

Leicester could replace Ruud van Nistelrooy with Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester City have now identified Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl as a potential replacement for Van Nistelrooy.

Rohl pulled off a great escape with Wednesday in the Championship last season and now has them in mid-table, despite operating on a shoestring budget.

The report claims that Leicester’s head of recruitment Martyn Glover has long been an admirer of Rohl, dating back to their time at Southampton together.

However, there is one potential stumbling block for the Foxes, as Rohl has a substantial release clause in his Wednesday contract.

So it won’t be a cheap deal to do.

Leicester to make Van Nistelrooy sack decision in the summer

The Mail further add that Leicester could decide to part ways with Van Nistelrooy in the summer, rather than now.

No final decision on the Dutchman’s future has been made just yet, so Khun Top and Jon Rudkin will continue to weigh up all the options in the remaining few weeks of the season.

Leicester have already added Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior to their managerial shortlist, so it appears due diligence on Van Nistelrooy’s potential successor is already well under way.

Both managers are considered up-and-coming young coaches, giving a clear indication to the profile they’re after.

Rosenior and Rohl have both been tested in the Championship, too, with the former plying his trade at Hull City last term.
