Leicester City are known for developing quality stars through their youth academy and naturally, some players will slip through the net.

Leicester wonderkid Jeremy Monga is a pioneer for the next generation of stars coming through at Seagrave. Monga was named on the bench against Manchester United and the 15-year-old has the world at his feet.

The teenage superstar will be desperate to follow in the footsteps of those who previously became first-team stars after beginning their journey in the academy, namely Ben Chilwell and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Monga could also take a similar path to former Leicester youngster Trey Nyoni, who joined Liverpool in 2023 instead of continuing his development at the King Power Stadium.

Nyoni made his Champions League debut for Liverpool last month, becoming the Reds youngest debutant in the competition at just 17.

Supporters kick themselves to this day that he was able to depart and they’ll also be annoyed at the club for releasing one other star over a decade ago.

Leicester City released Ivan Toney at the age of 16

According to Leicestershire Live, the Foxes released striker Ivan Toney at the age of 16. He was then snapped up by Northampton Town, quickly breaking into the first-team and making 53 appearances across two seasons in League Two.

Like Ben White, who was released by Leicester for not being good enough, Toney didn’t look like a Premier League-level striker but he soon developed into one.

Following a move to Newcastle United and loan spells at numerous EFL clubs, including Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Shrewsbury Town and Wigan Athletic, the Englishman found a permanent home at Peterborough United.

Toney plundered 49 goals in 94 appearances for the Posh, and this earned him a £5 million transfer to Brentford in August 2020.

From there, the 28-year-old fired Brentford into the Premier League with 31 goals in the 2020/21 campaign before solidifying himself as a clinical finisher in the top flight.

Where is Ivan Toney now

Toney spent four seasons in the Premier League with the Bees and scored an impressive 36 goals in 85 appearances.

Sadly, the striker was banned for the majority of his final campaign for breaching the FA’s betting rules, which meant he only made 17 appearances in 2023/24.

However, Toney’s clinical exploits at the highest level saw him attract some of the division’s biggest clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Instead, he chose a lucrative £40 million move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli in the summer of 2024 and he’s since bagged 14 goals in 24 appearances.

In total, Toney has scored 183 goals across his career in 442 matches, almost averaging one every two games.
