The January transfer window is turning into a sad state of affairs for Leicester City and time is running out to change the bleak outlook.

There are only five days left before the window slams shut, and although Leicester are struggling in 17th position, Woyo Coulibaly’s £3m switch from Parma remains their only capture.

Frustratingly, Ruud van Nistelrooy wanted four new signings before the window opened, including a right-back, centre-back, winger and striker – only one of those positions have been addressed.

Van Nistelrooy has threatened to exit the King Power Stadium if sufficient business isn’t complete and considering Leicester are only targeting loan players, irritation has reached an all-time high.

Supporters are right to vent their frustrations over the club’s transfer policy, and it’s even more anger-fuelling knowing one of their former youngsters has just made history in the Champions League.

Trey Nyoni makes history after becoming Liverpool’s youngest-ever debutant in Europe

Leicester’s academy is a goldmine for developing precious talents. The Foxes have seen Ben Chilwell, Harvey Barnes and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, among others, come from humble beginnings before playing in the Premier League.

Equally, Leicester have also lost youngsters to bigger clubs, denying them the chance to develop into stars and sell them on in the future.

One example of this was Liverpool snatching Trey Nyoni from Leicester in August 2023, seeing the teenager as one for the future.

The attacking midfielder has made steady progression since making the switch to Anfield, starring in their Premier League 2 campaign for under-21s while appearing five times for the first team.

On Wednesday night, Nyoni even made history. With qualification for the Champions League round of 16 in the bag, Arne Slot made wholesale changes for the visit to PSV.

The Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat against the Dutch giants however, the night will be remembered for what Nyoni achieved, as he became Liverpool’s youngest-ever debutant in Europe, aged 17 years and 213 days.

Nyoni came off the bench for the final 26 minutes, replacing Andy Robertson, in what was an unforgettable night for the teenager.

Leicester must avoid another Nyoni blunder with Jeremy Monga

Leicester didn’t have a choice in the matter when Liverpool came in for Nyoni but they must avoid a similar outcome from happening with Jeremy Monga.

The electric 15-year-old winger continues to make incredible strides in the under-21s and earlier this month, Van Nistelrooy hinted at first-team football for Monga on the horizon.

With some big clubs already scouting the teenager, Leicester must do everything in their power to keep their precious talent.

Monga is a genuine wonderkid who could become the next superstar to emerge from Seagrave, following in the footsteps of many who came before him.
