Leicester City have announced the signing of right-back Woyo Coulibaly from Serie A side Parma.

Ruud van Nistelrooy scoured the market for a new full-back during this transfer window, seeing it as a position of priority for Leicester City.

The Foxes needed to provide competition for James Justin, with Leicester previously hitting a roadblock in their attempts to sign other defenders.

Now, the first signing of the van Nistelrooy era has been unveiled, as Woyo Coulibaly arrived from Parma after identifying the 25-year-old as his prime target last week.

Coulibaly has cost Leicester in the region of £3m, undergoing his medical on Tuesday before being announced as a Foxes player on Wednesday.

Leicester City announce Woyo Coulibaly transfer

Leicester’s first signing of the January transfer joins the Foxes from Parma following three and a half years at the Italian side.

Before making his move to the Serie A, the Frenchman developed into a powerful attacking right-back in Ligue 2 with Le Havre.

With two assists in 14 league appearances this term in the Italian top division, Coulibaly is known for his lung-bursting runs down the right flank and strength at defending.

Now officially a Premier League player and entering the prime years of his year, Coulibaly is ready to become an instant hit in Leicestershire where he’ll hopefully help his new side survive in England’s top flight.

Van Nistelrooy has been crying out for a new full-back to challenge or replace Justin in defence, with the Dutchman finally getting his hands on a worthy rival to the Englishman.

While Coulibaly’s emergence at the King Power Stadium is a positive, their work is far from done in the transfer window, with van Nistelrooy hinting at further Leicester transfers this week.

Leicester turned down Kyle Walker-Peters to sign Coulibaly

Having captured the Frenchman for a fee in the region of £3m, Leicester may have landed a bargain in Coulibaly.

Remarkably, Leicester refused the chance to sign Kyle Walker-Peters for £7m, with the club perhaps put off when his contract expiring in the summer.

Supporters were annoyed that Leicester turned down Walker-Peters, who was seen as a bargain for the above asking price.

However, the fans will hope that Coulibaly can quickly make the Foxes forget about the Southampton star as he aims to kickstart his life in the Premier League with a bang.
