Leicester City star slammed by Danish media for ‘terrible day at the office’ in Serbia draw

Leicester City stars Jannik Vestergaard and Victor Kristiansen were in action for Denmark in their goalless against Serbia on Monday night.

Denmark had to fight an onslaught from the home side in Belgrade as Serbia had 22 shots in comparison to the Dane’s eight.

Vestergaard and Kristiansen both started the game but were unable to make an impact and were among the two lowest ranked players for their national team.

The other Leicester City star in the Denmark squad, Mads Hermansen was an unused substitute and while Vestergaard did show some signs of improvement, it was the Foxes full-back who was under the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Victor Kristiansen given one star rating for ‘terrible evening’

Unfortunately for Leicester, Victor Kristiansen was given a scathing verdict among national media.

The left-back appeared to have a torrid time on the international stage and the 21-year-old was given a one-star rating by Tipsbladet. – the lowest of any player in the side.

Danish media’s verdict stated: Kristiansen again had a terrible evening at the office. The Dane did not follow his marking at all after 20 minutes, when he was overtaken. It gave the home team a huge chance. He sailed around for Denmark.

“He seemed like all other Danish players deeply shaken at the start of the match. He made one mispass after another. Off for an evening. The second half was marginally better for Kristiansen.”

B.T added: “Did Zivkovic have bad breath? For ‘VK’, in the first half, they kept a constant distance of several meters to the Serbian edge, which again, again and again avoided and hit dangerous crosses. And then the Dane spiced it all up with sloppy clearances that gave the Serbs new opportunities. However, he played himself up as the match progressed. 2/6.”

Ekstrabladet also gave the 21-year-old a two, stating: “There is doubt as to whether he succeeded in blocking a single post. It was terrifying. He shuffled around and limped most of the time. It almost seemed as if he had invited the Serbs to an open house and told them they could just look around as much as they wanted.

“At the same time, he was close to a real nightmare in the second half when he almost gave Serbia a free-kick, which Schmeichel intercepted. He grew a bit in the second half.”

Leicester could be forced to search for defensive alternatives in January

The January transfer window is just around the corner and Steve Cooper will now be looking at any way he can help boost his squad.

One area he may target is the full-back position after Cooper confirmed that Ricardo Pereira would be out for four months.

Currently, that leaves Kristiansen, James Justin, and Luke Thomas as the only senior options and whilst the first two will keep their spots, Thomas is sadly not at the level required.

By the time January comes around, Pereira will be well into his rehabilitation but after suffering his third long-term injury in less than five years, a return to his very best shouldn’t be expected.

Targeting a full-back who is comfortable playing on the left or right-hand side may be a huge benefit to the Foxes boss and aid their quest to end the season as a Premier League club.
