It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Leicester City as one youngster made his Premier League debut against Manchester City.

The Foxes were beaten 2-0 by Man City on Sunday after goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland condemend Ruud van Nisterlooy’s side to a fourth straight defeat.

Haaland praised Leicester for their tough display but his words won’t do too much repair as the East Midlanders head into 2025 two points adrift of safety and in 18th place in the Premier League.

But for one young star, it was a day to remember as Will Alves made his first appearance in the top flight.

Will Alves reacts to making Premier League debut

Alves is one of the brightest talents to come out of the Foxes academy in recent years and has been destined for big things.

Alves is one of the youngest Leicester players to make his senior debut, aged 16 in an FA Cup tie against Watford in 2022.

The 19-year-old has had to be patient to earn his chance with the first team but, with a win out of the question and minutes remaining, Van Nistelrooy brought him on.

Reacting to the momentous occasion on Instagram, Alves said: “Despite the result, I am over the moon to make my premier league debut at this club. Thank you to all my family, friends and the fans for your support.”

A number of Leicester teammates reacted to the post, with Michael Golding posting a love heart emoji whilst Kasey McAteer wrote: “Proud”.

Fellow youth prospect Logan Briggs also sent a love heart emoji and Tom Cannon, currently out on loan at Stoke City, also commented.

Will Alves must start for Leicester City in FA Cup clash

Given Leicester’s top flight position is under threat, it’s understandable to see why Van Nistelrooy is so cautious to give the youngster game time.

But, with an FA Cup Third Round clash against lower league opposition on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to see what Alves is all about.

Playing predominantly in the number 10 role, Alves could be given the chance to pit himself against Queens Park Rangers, a struggling Championship side.

As it’s a home game too, Leicester will be expected to have more of the ball and should he impress, further opportunities may await.
