Leicester City were once again on the losing side in the Premier League as the Foxes fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Chelsea.

Marc Cucurella’s second-half strike from distance was all it took for Enzo Maresca to haunt his former side, with Leicester now six points from safety with ten games left to go in the 2024/25 season.

The performance wasn’t a total disaster, though, with Mads Hermansen winning praise for his ‘brilliant’ penalty save against Cole Palmer, with the Leicester goalkeeper becoming the first player to stop the England international from the spot.

Another interesting note from the game was Ruud van Nistelrooy’s decision to switch to a three-at-the-back, and Leicester fans were in agreement with the tactical switch on social media after the full-time whistle.

Leicester fans approve of new defensive system vs Chelsea

It might have been another defeat and another game without a goal scored, but Leicester were noticeably better at the back, with Conor Coady returning to the starting XI having last started a Premier League game in January.

And for Leicester fans on social media, many were impressed with how solid the Foxes looked at the back, though supporters were still frustrated with the lack of attacking quality, with options at the front as limited as ever.

Another Leicester fan wrote: “I personally think we played good, just bad luck and others… I am going to trust Ruud throughout so don’t sack him now… He can gather his things together he just needs more time”

One supporter posted: “If Leicester have been playing like this all season, this team wouldn’t be in danger of relegating, this was a strong performance, our passing was also fantastic and precise.”

One Leicester fan posted: “Better. Bit more fight and ambition in the tackle at times today Still yet another game without a goal though. United is actually an opportunity to try and finally turn this thing around.”

Another Fox wrote: “Better defensively for the most part but were no threat to Chelsea really at the other end.”

Who do Leicester play in their next five Premier League games?

With ten games left to play and six points separating Leicester from Premier League safety, Van Nistelrooy faces a near-impossible task to rescue the Foxes having lost 12 of the last 13 league games.

And after today’s defeat against Chelsea, things do not get any easier for Leicester who next face Manchester United before taking on Manchester City midweek, followed by a difficult home test against Newcastle United.

With Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool completing the next five games, Leicester could be in real trouble if they fail to find a way to score goals, with relegation looking likely if a miracle cure isn’t found in the coming weeks.
