Leicester have already been told about little-known clause in Danny Rohl’s contract, only a select few can activate it

Leicester City look likely to part ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy at the end of the season.

Van Nistelrooy hasn’t failed to turn things around since becoming Leicester manager and with six games of the season left, relegation to the Championship looks inevitable.

Danny Rohl is one of the names touted to be a replacement for the Dutchman if he departs and whilst Rohl is focused on the present with Sheffield Wednesday, it’s inevitable he leaves.

He’ll be a man in-demand but, although relegation will be another dark mark against the Foxes, it could help them to get the 35-year-old.

Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday deal contains unknown release clause

It’s common knowledge that it will take in the region of £5m to prize Rohl away from Hillsbrough – a pricey fee considering Leicester wouldn’t part with £4m to appoint Carlos Corberan in 2024.

However, Alan Nixon revealed on his Patreon back in March that a clause in his contract means that the German’s release clause is slashed in half for Championship clubs.

Of course, Wednesday would want to hold out for a higher fee but if Leicester were to drop into the second tier, it would open the possibility to get a highly-rated manager for a cut-price fee.

That’s also providing he chooses Leicester over other projects, with RB Leipzig said to be in talks with Rohl and already-relegated Southampton eyeing up a move too.

Sheffield Wednesday won’t Rohl over for anyone

Keeping a manager as talented as Rohl will be at the top of Wednesday’s priorities.

Like the Foxes, fans are disgruntled with the club’s ownership and there is a growing consensus that like Leicester, a new manager could be in the dugout for the start of the 25/26 season.

The £5m compensation fee is an eye-watering sum though and once that could put off any potential suitors.

Unlike Wednesday though, Leicester would be among the favourites for promotion and as Enzo Maresca proved, a viable pathway to that top job.
