Carlos Corberan provides honest verdict on if he will become the next Leicester City manager

Carlos Corberan has responded to speculation about whether he is interested in becoming the next Leicester City manager.

Corberan is one of the favourites for the Leicester job after his stellar work with West Bromwich Albion.

Working with limited resources, the Spaniard has transformed the Baggies from a midtable team into one pushing for promotion.

His work hasn’t gone unnoticed and he was linked with the Foxes in the summer, only for them to be put off by his £4m compensation package.

But, after Leicester sacked Steve Cooper, it seems that it is between Ruud van Nistelrooy and Corberan for who will take the reins at the King Power Stadium.

West Brom were in action on Tuesday night where they battled to a 0-0 draw away at high-flying Championship side Sunderland.

Remarkably, it was an eighth draw in nine games for the Black Country club, and a sixth goalless draw of the season.

Their trip to the Stadium of Light was overshadowed by the recent reports of Corberan to the Leicester job, but he told the Express & Star that he wasn’t even aware of Cooper’s sacking until recently.

He said: “I can only say how focused I am at West Bromwich, how proud I feel to be the coach of this amazing club.

“I understand that football always has speculation around, but I didn’t even know that Leicester’s coach was sacked, for example, until last night. There is so much speculation that can appear out of my control.

“I am completely focused in my work, my club, to get better form, to give fans better results and hopefully our fans don’t feel any type of lack of respect because there are always things in the media we cannot control.”

When will the new Leicester City manager be appointed?

The Foxes hoped to have someone in charge by Saturday for their trip to Brentford but at the time of writing, it’s Wednesday, and no appointment has been made.

Members of the Leicester coaching team could take charge against Brentford and at this stage, even if Corberan or any other manager is confirmed before the weekend, they will likely oversee it from the stands.

In the latest update on the Foxes’ manager search it was revealed that the club were also relatively keen on David Moyes and also admired Lee Carsley.

Leicester legend Gary Lineker wants Carsley at the Foxes and given his work with the England youth set up, would almost certainly be a popular figure.
