Leicester City have been dealt a blow ahead of the upcoming 2025 January transfer window.

The Foxes are expected to be active once the winter transfer window opens up in a few weeks.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was asked about Leicester City’s transfer plans ahead of the 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion last week and confirmed there are funds available.

Van Nistelrooy has a lot of problems to address in January, including improving his forward line.

Abdul Fatawu is out for the rest of the season and Odsonne Edouard has struggled at Leicester, meaning additions up top should be signed in the next month.

A number of names have already been tipped to make the move to the Midlands over the last month or so, one of which has now been ruled out for a lengthy period.

Leicester City target Callum Wilson injured

Leicester sent scouts to watch Omar Marmoush in Denmark last month but the in-form striker is also attracting interest from some big names in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, journalist Ben Jacobs via the NUFC Matters YouTube channel stated recently that Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson has been ‘discussed’ by Leicester.

He said: “Even though it may seem a bit strange, there will be interest in the Premier League from one or two struggling clubs.

“I do know that West Ham and Leicester have discussed Callum Wilson. I think West Ham’s up in the air because of the future of Julen Lopetegui and they have already brought one slightly older striker in Niclas Fullkrug.”

However, any hope Leicester had of securing Wilson in January now seems to be dead in the water, with Craig Hope reporting late on Wednesday that the forward is now going to be out for two months due to a hamstring issue.

Leicester City handed mixed news before Newcastle United

While Wilson’s injury isn’t great for Leicester’s January plans, it does mean he won’t be playing this weekend.

The Foxes travel to St James’ Park for a 3pm Premier League kick-off on Saturday, with Wilson obviously not involved.

However, Newcastle have been given a boost before Leicester this weekend, with Joe Willock expected to return for the meeting.

The Magpies are, however, likely to be without centre-back Sven Botman, who has returned for the club’s U21s but is unlikely to play senior football until January.
