Ruud van Nistelrooy has made a fresh addition to his coaching staff by appointing a brand new assistant manager at Leicester City.

The new Leicester boss hadn’t made any major alterations to the backroom team following the sacking of Steve Cooper, with Jelle ten Rouwelaar the only new face in the dugout alongside Van Nistelrooy.

But, after four games in charge, the Dutchman is starting to stamp his mark down on the squad and has appointed a new assistant manager.

According to Echo Live, Leicester have appointed Brian Barry-Murphy as the club’s new assistant manager.

Barry-Murphy is a higly-rated coach who has spent time working with Manchester City’s development squad and has been endorsed by Pep Guardiola.

During his time at City, the former Football League star was known for helping to develop the likes of Rico Lewis, Liam Delap and Carlos Forbs.

He also has experience as a manager having been in charge of Rochdale and is known for his possession-based style of play.

What has Brian Barry-Murphy said about leaving Manchester City?

Barry-Murphy actually took over Enzo Maresca’s role as manager of the academy side after the Italian became the Leicester manager.

There he was heralded for having a huge impact on the young talents, who try and replicate how Guardiola’s side play to ease their transition into the first team.

But, after three years at the Premier League giants, the former Republic of Ireland international stepped down recently.

Speaking to The Athletic in September, he said: “I’ve been pretty clear for a while that I wanted to move on.

“It might sound unusual, as I would sum up my period at Manchester City as the most insightful of my life in football, because of who I was working with.

“But also, I have this real want to go and test myself on my terms. You tell yourself, ‘Go on, then’, rather than stay there and be in awe of Pep, watch what he does and never use it for anything.

“I had a real instinctive feeling when I went to Man City that it was the right place at the right time; I have had the same feeling for over a year now.

“It sounds selfish but I have got what I wanted from that experience.”
