Where would Leicester City be without Jamie Vardy?

It’s a question many have asked over the years and thankfully, the Foxes haven’t had to find the answer yet.

Vardy’s hilarious celebration against Tottenham Hotspur to celebrate his 198th goal in Leicester colours was another reminder of just how good he has been.

Aged 38, Vardy almost quit Leicester to become a holiday rep in Ibiza after one season but now, over 10 years later, he’s still at the top of his game.

Vardy’s incredible pre-match routine of Red Bull, port and more has helped him forge a reputation as one of the best Premier League strikers of all time.

The forward’s manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy is also part of that bracket and after working with him for two months, has made a bold prediction about the Leicester legend.

Leicester boss backs Jamie Vardy to break more Leicester records

Van Nistelrooy singled out Vardy for his leadership in the comeback win against Spurs last week as the former England international ended a mini run of games without a goal to tap home his eighth of the season.

That goal was his first as a 38-year-old means he is now on 10 goal involvements for the season. Only Teddy Sheringham with 13 in 2004 has more goals and assists combined for a Premier League player aged 38 or older.

Barring any mishaps he is on course to overtake that and beat Sheringham’s record and Van Nistelrooy believes he will be around for a while yet.

The Leicester boss said: “It’s difficult to look into the future, but if I look at it now, at a 38-year-old striker in the Premier League who is performing like he is, with his fitness levels and his intelligent movement in and out of possession, and the leader that he is for us, it’s remarkable.

“The way he looks after himself, for me it implies he can carry on for a long time.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy names Jamie Vardy’s best quality

Vardy may be the top scorer for the Foxes this season, but he could’ve easily added more to his tally.

Before last weekend, Vardy had gone six league games without scoring a goal. His previous drought had only lasted three matches.

As his career has proven though, the Leicester captain doesn’t give up and will always keep going – a trait his boss admires.

“one of his best qualities is that he’s not affected by missing a chance,” Van Nistelrooy highlighted. “He’s like: ‘Next, next, next.’

“If we keep playing like this and get him into these situations, he will start scoring. It’s up to us to create the chances for him and the goals will come.”
