Leicester City are embroiled in a relegation battle and need their best players fit and firing if they’re to beat the drop.

The Foxes are in the trenches at the bottom of the Premier League. Just three wins from 22 matches sees them two points from safety on 14 points.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is preparing his side to travel to London to take on Spurs in an important matchup on Sunday.

And although the struggling Dutchman won’t have all his best players available, he is hopeful some will be making their returns soon.

Ruud van Nistelrooy gives injury update on three Leicester City players

Leicester City are without Mads Hermansen, Abdul Fatawu and midfielder Wilfried Ndidi. The trio are all ruled out through injury, and while this weekend’s match will come too soon, there has been some positive news for two of the three.

Hermansen, the Foxes’ number one, suffered a groin strain against Newcastle just before Christmas. He hasn’t featured since but has begun his recovery programme and is making good strides towards returning to action.

Elsewhere, Ndidi, who injured his hamstring during his side’s 2-2 draw against Brighton nearly two months ago, is close to making his long-awaited return. Van Nistelrooy has confirmed the Nigerian could train with the Leicester City first team again from next week.

Unfortunately for Fatawu, his return still seems to be some way off. The attacker is expected to miss the remainder of the season after he injured his ACL while on international duty with Ghana back in November.

Importance of Sunday’s game

With just 14 games left in the season, there is no more room for error. The clock is ticking and Leicester City must now approach every match like it’s a cup final.

The manager is under huge pressure after suffering a run of seven consecutive defeats. Van Nistelrooy has fallen out with players behind the scenes but must get them back on side ahead of a crucial period.

Even though Spurs will be this weekend’s favourites, Ange Postecoglou also has injuries to contend with, so the Foxes may feel a renewed sense of optimism ahead of their trip to London.

Should the away side pull off an upset, then depending on what the teams around them do, could move out of the drop zone for the first time in six weeks.
