Ruud van Nistelrooy kicked off his reign as Leicester City manager with a big win over West Ham United.

Leicester City sacked Steve Cooper as their manager on November 24th following a torrid run of form.

That dismal run continued last weekend with the newly-appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy watching on from the stands at the Gtech Community Stadium as the Foxes lost 4-1 at the hands of Brentford.

The former Manchester United coach then took charge of his first game at the King Power Stadium on December 3rd.

Jamie Vardy opened the scoring after two minutes before further goals from Bilal El Khannouss and Patson Daka in the second 45 earned the Midlands side a 3-1 win.

The Foxes have now put four points between themselves and the relegation zone for the time being, while Van Nistelrooy set a Premier League record after Leicester vs West Ham.

There is still much work to be done at the King Power, however, especially with some very tough fixtures coming up later this month.

Leicester are by no means safe from relegation either. Wolves are now four points behind them but the 18th-place outfit do still have a game in hand to play.

For the time being though, the Foxes are heading in the right direction under their new boss.

Now, The Athletic have shared how Van Nistelrooy was planning to celebrate his first winner as Leicester manager.

They wrote: “At the end of the match, the Dutchman strolled out onto the pitch to salute the fans and said afterwards that following a whirlwind first three days at the club he was going to enjoy a beer and reflect. He has certainly deserved it.”

How Leicester City fans reacted to Ruud van Nistelrooy debut vs West Ham

West Ham have problems of their own this season, so it was a fairly kind fixture for Van Nistelrooy to make his debut in.

However, even though they did concede, Leicester looked much better defensively and there was a clear style of play and plan in place.

Ruud had his players working as a much more cohesive unit than we ever saw under Cooper and that was evident by the result.

It was only the second time the Foxes have scored three goals in the Premier League this term – last doing so in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

Leicester fans gave their verdict on Van Nistelrooy after his first match in charge, taking to social media to praise the 48-year-old.

It’s only early stages and fans shouldn’t get too carried away but the future appears bright under Ruud.
