Leicester City need to strengthen their squad if they are to avoid Premier League relegation.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been brought to Leicester City in a bid to help the club’s survival chances.

The Dutchman is going to take charge of his first game for the Foxes on Tuesday evening after watching them get smashed 4-1 by Brentford this past weekend.

In his first press conference as manager, Van Nistelrooy spoke about Leicester transfers as we edge closer to the January window.

He said: “That was a topic of discussion. The two conversations were very open and clear. It’s important to know how things are in the near future and the further future. January was discussed.

“The current squad was discussed. I have to have a good assessment over the coming weeks ahead of January, giving every player a chance. I’m working with people at the club but I’m looking to bring in other people.”

While not 100 percent, his comments do suggest there is a chance the Foxes will make additions in January.

However, there is one star the Midlands outfit will almost certainly not be signing under Van Nistelrooy.

Leicester City dealt Omar Marmoush transfer blow

With Abdul Fatawu out for the season, Ruud and co. are expected to be targeting attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Last week, we covered reports that claimed Leicester sent scouts to watch Omar Marmoush in Denmark when his Eintracht Frankfurt team were playing in the Europa League.

Marmoush has 17 goals and 11 assists in 19 games across all competitions for Frankfurt this term and would have been a major coup for Leicester.

However, The Athletic are now reporting that Frankfurt expect Marmoush to leave them in the summer transfer window.

A winter move is unlikely but the door is still open if the right offer comes in. However, Leicester’s chances of signing the forward have been all but squashed by David Ornstein.

The highly-regarded journalist claims the Bundesliga hitman is likely to end up at a Champions League side with some major Premier League clubs, Bayern Munich and several top Italian teams circling.

Furthermore, Marmoush is expected to cost any potential buyer between £33m and £42m – a fee Leicester are unlikely to be able to afford right now.

Leicester City alternative targets to Omar Marmoush

With a deal for Marmoush almost certainly off the cards, Leicester will need to look at alternative options.

Leicester have been linked with a move for Mathys Tel, who has been compared to AC Milan star Rafael Leao.

The Bayern winger is expected to be available for loan in the upcoming window – a deal that would suit the Foxes’ financial situation much more than Marmoush.

Elsewhere, Ben Doak could be an option for Leicester as he continues to dazzle while on loan from Liverpool.

Middlesbrough are eyeing promotion to the Premier League this season and Doak has been absolutely immense for them during his brief stint at the club.

Liverpool have the option to recall the Scotland international and if that happens, he would be a superb signing for Leicester.
