Leicester City look set to be involved in a relegation battle this season having made a pretty poor start.

Steve Cooper’s men have won just two of their opening 11 games in the league and are languishing in 15th place.

As such, Cooper’s future at Leicester is far from secure and it’s claimed he has until the end of the year to turn things around, otherwise he could be sacked by the board.

Leicester fans have been calling for Cooper to be sacked as they continue to grow frustrated with the pragmatic style of play and baffling team selections.

So when asked in Thursday’s press conference about how he feels he’s performed, it made for an interesting response.

Steve Cooper thinks he’s done ‘ok’

Speaking in Thursday’s presser ahead of this weekend’s clash against Chelsea, Cooper was asked how he thinks he’s done since joining Leicester in July.

“It’s been OK,” the City boss admitted, via Jason Bourne.

“There’s more to ask from everyone in the team, including myself. We’re conceding too many goals as a team and I’m part of the defence that’s doing that so we’re going to tighten up in the future.”

In fairness, Cooper has always been really honest with the media and supporters can respect his transparency, even if they aren’t too happy with the results.

Cooper wants to do more than just stay up

Cooper also added that he wants to do more than just survive relegation this term – he has much bigger aspirations.

“I knew how hard this challenge was going to be, and it’s lived up to it. We always want more – the league position is ok,” he told BBC Radio Leicester Sport.

“If it stayed like that, some people would be satisfied, but we want more. For a lot of promoted teams, the first objective is to stay up, because history tell you how hard that is, but we have other objectives we want to achieve. We want to think big.”

Supporters have felt for much of the season that the squad is actually capable of finishing much higher than 17th, so those words from Cooper will certainly be pleasing to hear.

A telling few weeks lie ahead for the Foxes boss, with a busy run of fixtures leading up to the new year.
