Leicester City’s financial situation has once again been the subject of conversation in the last week or so.
The Foxes have been flirting with a possible points deduction for a while now and narrowly escaped punishment last year.
Leicester were charged by the Premier League for a breach of their spending rules in the three-year period leading up the the 2022/23 season.
The Foxes won their PSR case in early September 2024 but there’s a chance they could once again be charged by the Premier League this year.
Leicester are in danger of suffering a points deduction with finance expert Adam Williams telling us: “Significantly, we don’t have access to the 2023-24 figures yet. The likes of Swiss Ramble, who I will always defer to when forecasting club accounts, reckons they need to have made a profit of around £15m to get within that £83m threshold.”
“It’s very hard to see how they get to that mark, even with the £80-90m they made in player sales last season. I think they might be over by a fair margin.”

How many points Leicester City could be deducted for breaching PSR
Leicester are not the only club in the Premier League to have had issues with PSR in the last couple of years.
Nottingham Forest and Everton have suffered points deductions after being charged by the Premier League.
Now, a report from The Athletic has shared an insight into Leicester’s situation and shed some light and the likely points deduction they will receive if found quality.
They suggested the Midlands outfit may breach PSR by a fee of around £12m. In comparison, Nottingham Forest did so by £35m and they were handed a four-point deduction after they cooperated fully.
Points deductions are proportionate to the scale of the breach, so a bigger breach would come with a bigger sanction but if the £12m figure touted by The Athletic is accurate, it seems unlikely they will lose more than four points after Forest’s £35m breach landed them that punishment.

How PSR could impact Leicester City January transfer window
We’re 10 days into the winter window and fans are still waiting for Leicester to sign a player.
Several names have been linked but no deals seem close at present, though their current PSR troubles shouldn’t, on paper, impact their current plans.
The report from The Athletic states that any money spent this month will have an impact on their future PSR calculations and play no role in their potential charge this year.
Despite this, a Leicester transfer update this week suggests the club are targeting budget options.
