Leicester City face Chelsea this weekend and had things gone differently, one of the Foxes’ current players could have been lining out against them.

Leicester City fans were given a welcome break from the Premier League over the weekend thanks to the FA Cup.

The Foxes were not in action after already being knocked out of the competition by Manchester United in the previous round.

But they now face a very tough test against Chelsea in the league on Sunday, March 9th.

The Midlands outfit go into the game having lost 11 of their previous 12 Premier League outings, the latest of which saw them comfortably dispatched by West Ham United.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have dropped off in the last month or so but are still fifth in the division and will likely prove too much for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side.

Wout Faes rejected chance to sign for Chelsea

After starting the club’s last seven matches in the top flight, Wout Faes is expected to be in from the off once more against the Blues this Sunday.

However, had things gone differently a decade ago, there’s a chance the Belgian would have been lining out for Enzo Maresca and co. against Leicester.

Faes began his footballing career on the books of Anderlecht. He came up through their youth system and while doing so, caught the eye of the Blues.

In fact, speaking back in 2022, as per The Guardian, the now 26-year-old revealed that Chelsea wanted to sign him and even sent him a signed David Luiz shirt.

However, he rejected a move as he wanted to have the best education and was aware Anderlecht saw him as a future talent.

He said at the time: “We have similar hair so maybe that is why … since then, people who I don’t really know always ask the same questions. I can understand it because he was a very big player and he’s played for almost all of the big teams in England but for me it’s important to make my own name.

“They [Chelsea] called me and they wanted to have me but I never really thought to go, because I knew at Anderlecht I was [in a] very, very good [place]. Maybe if I had gone there, maybe I would have got more money but that was not important.

“I wanted to have the best education and I knew at Anderlecht they were really counting on me and saw me as a future talent. It was more important to stay there and progress there. I never thought: ‘I should have gone to Chelsea.’ I have no regrets to not have signed there.”

Leicester City set Wout Faes asking price after transfer interest

After stints in Belgium, the Netherlands and France, Leicester signed Faes from Stade Reims in 2022.

He’s since made 109 appearances for the club, but the defender’s future at the King Power has been called into question this season.

Juventus sent scouts to watch Faes when the stopper was on international duty back in October 2024.

Despite some mixed displays this season, the 25-time capped international had more interest in January as well.

Galatasaray tried to sign Faes in the 2025 winter transfer window but were said to have been put off by the club’s £16m asking price.
