Leicester City set clear Wout Faes asking price after European giants tried to sign Belgian star

Leicester City saw a frustrating transfer window pass by with little shout-about in terms of incomings, although several players did depart.

The first of those was Tom Cannon, who joined Sheffield United in a £10m transfer while teammate Hamza Choudhury also linked up with the Blades on loan.

Choudhury wasn’t the only player to seal a temporary exit as highly-rated academy star Will Alves was loaned to Cardiff City on transfer deadline day.

While multiple stars departed the King Power Stadium, others were close to sealing exits, including Caleb Okoli.

Parma were pushing to sign Okoli right up to the deadline but the Nigerian remained at Leicester just like another one of his teammates.

Galatasaray tried to sign Wout Faes as Leicester City set £16m asking price

According to Turkish journalist Ertan Suzgun, Galatasaray attempted to sign centre-back Wout Faes during January but was put off by Leicester’s €20m (£16m) asking price.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from the King Power regularly across the last few months, with Juventus even sending scouts to watch Faes while playing for Belgium.

It’s been a testing season for the Belgian international and for Leicester as a whole, who have conceded a whopping 53 goals in just 24 matches this term – only Southampton (54) have shipped more.

Faes was blasted for his woeful display against Everton on Saturday as the Foxes were thrashed 4-0 by a relegation rival.

To many watching Leicester, it’s become clear that his partnership alongside Jannik Vestergaard gets torn to shreds and perhaps isn’t good enough for the Premier League.

Therefore, Faes playing in a notoriously slower division, such as the Turkish Super League, would probably suit him down to the ground.

When does the transfer window shut in Turkey?

While clubs in England can no longer sign players after the window shut on Monday, February 3rd, the transfer window in Turkey is open till Tuesday, February 11th.

It gives teams such as Galatasaray more time to get business done and implies they could launch a late bid for Faes.

Since Van Nistelrooy failed to sign any player other than right-back Woyo Coulibaly, it’s highly unlikely they’d let Faes depart.

However, interest in the Belgian only reinforces that clubs are sniffing around for his signature, and his exit in the summer looks on the cards.
