Leicester City have sanctioned the sale of Tom Cannon to Championship club Sheffield United.

Tom Cannon joined Leicester City from Everton in August 2023 but struggled to cement himself as a regular starter at the King Power Stadium.

He made 13 Championship appearances during his debut season with the club, scoring two and assisting one.

However, once the summer transfer window rolled around and the Foxes secured promotion to the Premier League, the striker was allowed to leave on loan.

Cannon returned to the second tier, joining Stoke City on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

The 22-year-old thrived at Stoke, scoring nine goals and providing one assist in 22 league matches.

Leicester then recalled Cannon in the January transfer window and speculation began to swirl over his future.

Tom Cannon message after leaving Leicester City for Sheffield United

Leicester fans wanted Cannon to get a chance under Ruud van Nistelrooy amid their current striker woes.

But that will not be the case as the forward has now completed a permanent transfer away from the Midlands.

Leicester have sold Cannon to Sheffield United, with reports from Sky Sports putting the transfer fee at £10m.

Following his signing, the Irishman has now penned his first words as a Sheffield United player via the club’s official website.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to finally get it all done. To be a Sheffield United player, it is just amazing to get it over the line and I am just looking forward to stepping out at Bramall Lane and getting going.

“Everybody knows the size of the club, and the fanbase. I am just delighted to be here and after speaking to the manager, I heard nothing but good words about the place. I am just looking forward to it.

“He (Chris Wilder) just filled me with a lot of confidence which is always nice from a manager. He’s just said nothing but good things about the club and the direction he wants to take it moving forward. It was something I really wanted to be a part of.”

Are Leicester City signing a striker in January?

Given his goal return for Stoke, it’s easy to see why fans wanted Cannon to stay at Leicester this season.

Jamie Vardy is struggling for form recently, Odsonne Edouard has been woeful and Patson Daka has had very limited game time this season.

Cannon could have been the answer to this issue but it instead looks like the Foxes will bring in a player from elsewhere.

Recent reports claimed Leicester want to sign three more players after Woyo Coulibaly this month, with a new striker thought to be of interest.
