Leicester City take out bank loan as January transfer spending spree claim made – three players targeted

Leicester City have had a very slow start to the 2025 winter transfer window, with just one player signed.

There are now less than two weeks of the January transfer window, which closes on February 3rd, remaining.

Despite currently sitting 19th in the Premier League and staring relegation in the face, the Foxes have had a very slow window so far.

Leicester City signed Woyo Coulibaly from Serie A side Parma in a deal with around £3m last week.

The right-back was not involved over the weekend when the Midlands outfit were beaten 2-0 by Fulham.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has since explained why Coulibaly missed Leicester versus Fulham, revealing when he will be available for the Foxes.

Outside of the defender, however, the relegation-threatened side are still waiting to make a signing but they may have been given a boost on that front this week.

Leicester City take out loan amid January transfer claim

Leicester fans were left furious following a transfer update last week that claimed their club will only have £12m-£14m to spend in January unless players are sold.

Foxes fans may now be happy to hear, however, that Van Nistelrooy’s side have taken out a bank loan.

Leicestershire Live report that the club have taken out a loan with Australian bank Macquarie.

The timing of said loan could signal a push for players this month, with it added that a winger, centre-back, and striker are wanted by Leicester before the window slams shut in early February.

Crucially, however, there’s a very important line in that report fans will want to take notice of, which reads: ‘it should not be interpreted that a spending spree is imminent with big-money deals on the way’.

Which players are being linked to Leicester City in January

While only time will tell if the club uses that loan to fund January moves, at least the Foxes are actually still looking to make more additions this month.

Previously a target of Brendan Rodgers, Leicester have been linked with Andre Silva alongside West Ham United recently.

The striker is said to be ‘keen on a move to the Premier League’ with a potential loan deal touted.

Leicester have been linked with several centre-backs as well, which isn’t surprising given their awful defensive record this term.
